Description (The Handmaid's Tale, Season 1)

The drama series, based on the award-winning, best-selling novel by Margaret Atwood, is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly part of the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism regime that treats women as property of the state. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world. In this terrifying society where one wrong word could end her life, Offred navigates between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids -- where anyone could be a spy for Gilead -- all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.

Slow and boring drama about what Im not even sure of. All I could tell you is that the maids are forced into having sex with the men who employ them while the kinky wife watches. Then bare children. Great T.V. I tell you!

I binge watched this show in 2 days, and found my thoughts wandering back to its message in the weeks that followed. It definitely made its mark on my psyche. That said, I’ve read some of the reviews here, and it seems a lot of people are taking it quite seriously, and even getting political about it. To that, I suggest we all loosen up a bit and take it for what it is- entertainment. If you’re looking to get lost in a storyline, and if you have an open mind, then I think you’ll enjoy this show. It can get a little twisted, so be ware. It’s cinematography value is gorgeous, and most of the scenes are so beautifully lit that it challenges the darkness of its message. If this sounds like something you’re up for, then make some popcorn, grab your comfy blanket, and settle in for a very thought provoking and somewhat creepy experience that you’ll be glad you watched.

I have been a connoisseur of horror films since the 80’s… I have watched a lot of creepy, scary, gross, and disturbing things. I have to say, this is at the top of my list of unsettling things to watch. With that said, its been executed so well that the delivery is profound and thought provoking. Part of what makes this series so chilling and terrifying- there are places in the world where women are seen and treated this way. There are also people who would be extremely happy if society would revert to this. This series is beyond entertainment… its something you should dwell on.

What ever made anyone think that adapting THE WORST book ever written into a tv show would be a good idea!? Whiles this @&$% is winning Emmy awards (for whatever reason, probably given to them by the same idiots who gave Shakespeare in Love and The Hurt Locker the Oscar) I'm still waiting for a Y: the Last Man show to be made, a FAAAARRRR superior book series than this trash!
  • An unquestionable masterpiece

I was hesitant to watch this show. It didn’t look like anything special from the previews and trailers. But I decided to give it a try. And let me tell you... I have never been so moved by anything in my entire life. I think it really begins with the masterful cinematography, directing, and writing. The script is gritty, and real. Though what really won me over was the state-of-the-art performance from Elisabeth Moss. A prodigy in this industry. Claire Foy has NOTHING on her. She can say something and make you believe it, or she can say nothing and you will know what her character is feeling. If you don’t watch this series, you’re missing out. You are REALLY missing out.
  • Too much to take

I watched it on Hulu till I couldnt take it anymore. Fine acting and production quality, but the message was so obivously fictional propaganda that I had to stop watching. As a SyFy story it might fly, but to relate it to any real fear or possible reality is simply fear and hate mongering. Some Folks will believe anything, in fact, too many will - thanks to the media's take on things. I simply say, no thanks.
