Description (The Hero)

THE HERO stars the legendary Sam Elliott as an aging actor confronting mortality in the moving new film from writer/director Brett Haley (I’LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS). Lee Hayden (Elliott) is a Western icon with a golden voice, but his best performances are decades behind him. He spends his days reliving old glories and smoking too much weed with his former-co-star-turned-dealer, Jeremy (Nick Offerman), until a surprise cancer diagnosis brings his priorities into sharp focus. He soon strikes up an exciting, contentious relationship with stand-up comic Charlotte (Laura Prepon), and he attempts to reconnect with his estranged daughter, Lucy (Krysten Ritter), all while searching for one final role to cement his legacy. THE HERO is a beautiful and poignant celebration of life and the legacies we all leave behind.

  • Disappointed

Really had high expectations for this film. I mean; "It's Sam Elliott for goodness sakes," but the movie was mostly slow, a little depressing, kind of boring, and going nowhere in particular. Thankful I got to see it for 99 cents.
  • beautiful and tender

  • A joy!

Gentle and true this move captures Sam Elliott and Katherine Ross with heart felt passion, finding life together as it is and not how we want it to be. Like a thirty year old scotch, Elliott provides the smooth taste and Ross provides the kick on the backside. Unconventional, fresh and worth watching a second and thrid time.
  • Real Life Including the Slow Parts

    By SK1003
The Hero feels like real life including all its dull, slow, awkward and difficult parts. It's not a happy movie so it's not going to lift you up or provide a good time on a Friday night. But, it may make you think about some important things lke family, legacy, and thoughtfulness.
  • Meh

The pace is too slow. Riddled with cliches. Something to play in the background while you cook.
  • Beautiful Movie

The title of this review says it all but for sake of reiteration, “Beautiful Movie.”
  • Wanted to like it, But.....

    By Stills Fan 01
I love Sam Elliot (really, who dosen't), but I was left so depressed and let down after watching this. The stupid drug scenes made me feel like I was back in the 60s watching the drug inspired ravings of some self-indulgent director. It was slow, uninteresting, and most of all dissapointing.
  • Depressing

Who does not like Sam Elliott’s voice. I bought this movie on that basis and his previous movies. But this movie was a lame imitation of his earlier characters. It dragged, scripts were predictable and very depressing. If you are a big Sam Elliott fan and insist on seeing it, save your money and just rent it...if you must.
  • Love this movie!!

What can I say? Sam Elliott is absolutely superb in this film. He just seems to get better with age. The supporting cast is also great. Sam rocks !!! Always has !!! Highly recommend to everyone. 👍👍👍😎
